Project overview

UTrada provides a global online trading platform offering a wide range of derivative instruments, including forex, commodities, energies, indices, shares, and cryptocurrencies. We deliver cutting-edge technology and strategic investment solutions to ensure the best trading experience for clients worldwide.

As a lead product designer, I carried the weight of building component libraries from 0 to 1 for every new project or phase, redesigning the same components with style variations for different functionalities. This involved starting from scratch each time, gathering past use cases, and defining new ones—adding significant responsibility to the role.

Project Highlights

Optimised Icons for Trading

The icons were divided into two categories: one for the landing page and one for the trading table. I designed them with a focus on the company branding and trading.

The icons were created to be easily understood, even without labels, through storytelling. I used the second main background colour to make the icons for Forex, Commodities, Energies, Indices, Shares, and Crypto stand out clearly.

Responsive Trading Table

This table design presents data for markets in a clear and intuitive way. It features responsive functionality, with horizontal scrolling on smaller screens to ensure all information remains accessible. Key data is highlighted with visual distinctions, allowing users to analyse market trends efficiently across any device.

From 3 to 11 languages: A global reach

The platform originally supported just three languages (English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese). I expanded this to 11, including Arabic, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Japanese, Malay, and Portuguese, enabling customers and traders worldwide to navigate it smoothly and confidently

A key challenge was handling text wrapping across different languages. I addressed this by carefully designing for each language and organising the content meticulously in Excel.

I also focused on language-specific details, like right-to-left alignment for Arabic and adding LINE, Japan's popular social media platform, to the Japanese page, ensuring a smooth, localized user experience.

UTrada Foundations: Defining Our Design Core

UTrada's Foundations establish the core elements of our brand and user interface, ensuring consistency and accessibility across all platforms. From logos and typography to color palettes, grid systems, and device guidelines, each element was carefully designed to align with UTrada’s style guide. These Foundations form the backbone of a cohesive and seamless design system tailored to UTrada's identity.

Building Blocks of UTrada's User Interface

Components are the interactive building blocks of a user interface, thoughtfully designed to enhance usability and streamline interaction. For UTrada, these elements were categorized by purpose—action, containment, navigation, selection, and text input—enabling seamless engagement across all devices.

From intuitive icons for quick actions to responsive tables for data selection, every component was tailored to align with UTrada's global branding and ensure clear communication, including language-specific elements. These designs not only supported the platform’s functionality but also made navigation and interaction intuitive for users worldwide.

From Data to Results

I led the design of the UTrada responsive website from the ground up, which successfully launched on 28th October. Over the first two months (up to 23rd December ), the dashboard demonstrated promising results, including across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Oceania and identifying 6.14% high-potential users. The design prioritized clarity and functionality, incorporating a scalable design system that ensures users can quickly access insights and take action effectively.

This project was meaningful to me because it was through the trust of my colleagues at ETO Markets(← Click next project), a company that was branching into a new business, that I was given the opportunity to design again. I felt a strong sense of responsibility to deliver even better results, which added to the pressure.

Working on design for a trading company again made the challenges of the financial sector even clearer to me. It also sharpened my attention to detail, improved my UI skills, and, most importantly, taught me to think in systems.

These experiences reinforced how past challenges shape our approach to design, teaching me to balance the pressure of delivering under tight deadlines with the need for long-term consistency and scalability.
